Tabal Pedregoso Gran Reserva Malbec is a refined expression of Malbec from the coastal Limar Valley, planted on alluvial soils enriched with calcareous veins along the southern bank of the Limar River. The Espinal vineyards unique geologystony alluvial terraces interspersed with limestone dust deposited by ancient glaciersgives the wine remarkable freshness and a distinct mineral character that sets it apart from other Chilean Malbecs. Hand-harvested at optimal aromatic and phenolic ripeness, the grapes undergo gentle fermentation in small stainless steel tanks, followed by post-fermentation maceration and 12 months of maturation in French oak barrels. The result is a vibrant, elegant wine with depth, precision, and a long, persistent finish.
Meet the producer
Established in 2002, Via Tabal is a pioneering winery on the edge of the Atacama Desert, recognised for its precise, terroir-driven wines that capture the unique character of northern and central Chile.
Production
Grapes are hand-picked into 20kg bins to preserve integrity and minimise damage. Fermentation takes place in small, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by maceration to enhance structure and texture. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels to integrate flavours and achieve a polished finish.
Tasting notes
Violet-red in colour, the nose reveals ripe plums, sour cherries, red fruits, and delicate violet aromas. On the palate, the wine is vibrant and fresh, with fine tannins, lively acidity, and a long, fruity finish.
