Chteau Nairac is a wine estate in the Barsac commune of the Sauternes region of Bordeaux. It was classified as a Deuxime Cru Class (Second Growth) in the Sauternes and Barsac Classification of 1855. The dessert wine of the same name which is produced here is heavily based on the Semillon grape variety. It has a reputation for elegance and minerality, and is regarded as one of the best examples from Barsac. The second wine is Esquisse de Nairac. The 17 hectares (42 acres) of vineyard are situated near Chteau Climens and Chteau Coutet. A 9ha block is situated around the Chteau building, and is regarded as their best terroir. Plantings are 90 percent Semillon, 6 Sauvignon Blanc and 4 percent Muscadelle. Vines average over 30 years of age. In the winery, two-thirds of the wine is fermented then matured in new French oak barrels. Typically around 2,500 cases of Chateau Nairac are produced each year.
