Daniel BarnesfoundedTreaty Oaks Distillingin2006in Austin, Texas. He quickly made an impact in the local bar scene and expanded rapidly, delivering a range of Bourbons, Whiskies, andWaterloo Gin. In 2016 they expanded to a new facility on a 28-acre ranch in the small town of Dripping Springs, Texas about ten miles west of Austin with new, larger stillsand storage rickhouse. In 2018 they became a part ofMahalo Spirits(Angels Envy) and RSVP Ventures expanding Spirits portfolio.
Treaty Oaks distillery likes to tinker and invent. And when they came out with their flagship Waterloo Gin No. 9, they started with a rather straight forward set of botanical infusions. Things like lavender, ginger, coriander, anise, licorice root, lemon, and grapefruit along with the necessary pop of fresh juniper. But it wasnt enough to source all these ingredients locally. They took it one step further by incorporating pecan practically the official state nut of Texas. Pecans in Gin weve never seen or tasted anything like it. And it works.
Smartass Corner:
When most of us think of Waterloo we think of one of two things: a hit 1980s-era pop song by the ABBA; or the decisive battle where The Duke of Wellington defeated Napoleon in 1815. But turns out Waterloo was the original name of Austin, Texas which now makes sense.
Waterloo No.9 Gin hails from Texas, where it embodies the spirit of the Lone Star State with its bold flavors and artisanal craftsmanship. Distilled with a blend of juniper, coriander, anise, citrus peel, and other botanicals, it offers a harmonious balance of herbal, floral, and citrus notes. The nose is greeted with a delightful aroma of juniper and spice, leading to a palate characterized by hints of pine, lavender, and zesty citrus, culminating in a smooth and satisfying finish.
Crafted with care, Waterloo No.9 Gin boasts a distinct character that reflects the rugged yet refined essence of Texas. With an alcohol content of around 47% ABV, it delivers a robust experience best enjoyed sipped neat, on the rocks, or as the base for classic cocktails like the gin and tonic or the martini. Whether savored alone or mixed into your favorite libation, this exceptional gin invites you to savor the taste of Texas in every sip.
