This family wine domaine was revived in 1972 by Charles and Jean-Joseph Flandre and covers 12.87 hectares of vines classified exclusively as Montagny 1er cru and situated in Montorge. The vines lie in some of the finest climats of the Montagny appellation including Les Chaniots and Les Cores. The Flandre family ages its wines with the utmost respect for tradition. Jean-Josephs son Yann took over at the domaine in 2014 and has shown his commitment to perpetuating the familys savoir-faire with the addition of another outstanding climat: Le Montorge, a monopoly wine which is aged in 500-litre barrels. Yann is very respectful of biodiversity and, in 2019, he made the decision to convert all of his vineyards to organic agriculture.
The Montagny terroirs endow the wines with a lovely minerality, Yann Flanders prefers to harvest the grapes a little later to allow them to mature for longer. In terms of winemaking, this winemakers byword is drinkability.
“If you let the terroir speak, Montagny is the perfect wine for enjoying from the aperitif through to the dessert.”
A serious dry wine with great complexity. Grape picking is done by hand and it is aged for a short time in oak casks which helps to enhance its golden colour and hazelnut flavour. Probably the best of the white wines from the Cotes Chalonnaises.
