Chteau Larose Trintaudon is a Cru Bourgeois wine producer located in Bordeaux’s Haut-Mdoc, the chteau building lying just west of the border between the Pauillac and Saint-Julien appellations. The estate is known for being one of the largest (in terms of size and production) in the wider Mdoc, producing more than a million bottles a year. The grand vin is a Bordeaux blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a little Petit Verdot. The estate has a history dating back to 1719, but it was not until 1838 that Henry Delaroze planted the estate’s first vineyards on a gravelly hillside parcel named ‘Tenement de Trintaudon.’ In the 1920s, most of Chteau Larose Trintaudon’s vines were pulled out as the then-owner tried to establish industrial dairy farming in the Mdoc. It was not until the 1960s that the semi-abandoned chteau was brought back to life by the Forner family, owners of the esteemed Marques de Caceres winery in Rioja, with the help of Emile Peynaud, a well-known oenologist and wine consultant. Chteau Larose Trintaudon has been owned by the insurance company Allianz since 1986.
