Domaine Nicolas Rossignol is a wine producer based in the village of Volnay in Burgundy’s Cte de Beaune subregion. The estate covers 17 hectares (42 acres) of vineyards, predominantly Pinot Noir, forming the basis of its extensive portfolio of premier cru wines from climats across Volnay, Pommard, Beaune, Savigny-ls-Beaune and Pernand-Vergelesses. Domaine Nicolas Rossignol also produces a single Chardonnay from vines in Pernand-Vergelesses. The estate’s founder, Nicolas Rossignol, is descended from a long line of Volnay winegrowers and initially learnt his craft on the family estate, Domaine Rossignol-Jeanniard. He went on to establish his own domaine in 1997, acquiring three hectares (seven acres) of vines in the villages of Volnay, Pommard, Beaune, Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses. For decades, Rossignol produced both Rossignol-Jeanniard and his own label wines at the Rossignol-Jeanniard domaine at the western end of Volnay village. Today, all production has moved to a modern facility on the southern outskirts of Beaune. Over the next few years, the domaine grew substantially with acquisitions and holdings in the premier cru climats of Aux Fourneaux and Les Lavires in Savigny-les-Beaune, Clos du Roi in Beaune and the famous penots vineyard in Pommard. Much of Rossignol’s fruit is sourced through share-cropping agreements and ngociant contracts.
