In Chablis, the crystal-clear fruit of Chardonnay merges with pure minerality and vibrant freshness. The aroma, distinctly shaped by the Kimmeridgian limestone soil, often displays notes of flint, green apples, and citrus fruits in its youth, gradually becoming enriched with nutty and smoky undertones with further aging. Vaulorent forms the southernmost extension of the 1er Cru Fourchaume on the right bank of the Serein and is located above the Grand Cru Les Preuses. This site is considered one of the best among the 1er Crus and often approaches the quality of the neighboring Grand Crus.

The 2022 Chablis 1er Cru Vaulorent opens with enticing aromas of pear, freshly baked bread, iodine, and hazelnuts. This medium to full-bodied wine is generous and complex, showing a richness and creaminess that is characteristic of the warmer vintage. If it continues to evolve and tighten up in the bottle, my current score may prove to be understated.
