Region and Vineyard
The 2023 Oraterra Pinot Noir is sourced from the renowned McCreanor Vineyard in Martinborough, New Zealand. This site features deep river gravels and low-nutrient soils, contributing structure and finesse to the wine. The terroir reflects Martinboroughs distinctive style and long-standing winemaking tradition.
Winemaking
Crafted by winemaker Wilco Lam, the grapes were hand-harvested and destemmed into small fermenters. Natural fermentation was carried out with gentle hand plunging to extract flavour and maintain balance. After 14 to 20 days on skins, the wine was pressed and matured for 12 months in large-format French oak barrels. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve its purity and natural texture.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Deep plum-ruby colour
Nose: Aromas of fresh plum and cherry blossom with developing hints of vanilla and leather
Palate: Subtle and layered, with fine tannins and vibrant acidity. The wine opens softly, building to a refined finish where fruit and oak are perfectly integrated.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with duck, game meats, or mushroom-based dishes. Its elegant structure makes it versatile across a range of flavours.
Cellaring Potential
Enjoy now or cellar confidently until 2035 to appreciate its full potential and complexity.
