Sandeman Unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) Port 2020 is a rich and expressive Port from the Douro Valley, Portugal. Made from a blend of 42% Touriga Franca, 37% Touriga Nacional, 16% Tinta Roriz, and 5% Tinto Co, it offers intense, concentrated fruit flavours balanced by vibrant acidity and firm, ripe tannins. Bottled unfiltered, this LBV showcases the power, complexity, and elegance that define Sandemans Port style.
Founded in 1790, Sandeman is instantly recognisable for its iconic Don logo, created in 1928. The winery is now part of Sogrape, which has invested heavily in vineyard management and winemaking practices, elevating the quality of Sandeman Ports to the top of the Douro. The familys dedication to quality and tradition ensures wines of exceptional structure, intensity, and ageing potential.
Grapes for this LBV are sourced from prime sites in the Cima Corgo sub-region, including Quinta do Seixo and Quinta do Vau. Vines grow on steep, schist terraces with deep roots accessing water and nutrients to withstand hot summers. Harvest is carried out by hand due to the steep terrain. Grapes are destemmed and gently crushed, then fermented in granite lagares with traditional treading to extract optimal colour, flavour, and tannin. Fermentation is halted by fortification with grape spirit, retaining natural sugars. The wine is aged in oak casks for around four years at Sandemans historic Vila Nova de Gaia cellars before bottling unfiltered to preserve intensity and complexity.
Deep ruby in colour, the nose reveals complex aromas of ripe blackberries, black cherries, strawberries, and plums, complemented by subtle spice and balsamic hints. On the palate, concentrated fruit flavours are supported by firm yet ripe tannins and lively acidity, leading to a long, layered, and lingering finish.
Ideal as a dessert wine, served with chocolate-based desserts, berry tarts, or strong cheeses.
